What is Pilates and why is it so good for your health and well-being?

Pilates helps to improve your posture, balance, strength, core stability and flexibility.  It also helps to reduce the risk of injury and improve the overall feeling of well-being and relaxation.

The name Pilates originates from Joseph Pilates who developed the exercises in the 1920s.  Since then they have evolved into a safe and effective exercise technique, which can be successfully carried out by all ages and abilities.

Pilates exercises target the abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks (the ‘core’ muscles of your body).  Pilates requires concentration and focus of both the mind and body, because you need to move your body through precise and controlled ranges of motion.

The muscles are never worked to exhaustion and the exercises are tailored and modified to the physical age and ability of the participants.
